Words have power. Words convey ideas, thoughts, judgments, criticisms, praise. Words are the start of an invention, a monument, a tower. They can also be the means to an end, or the beginning of an end.
How many people believe that the word n*gger should be wiped from the planet? I do. It’s a horrible word that degrades and demeans a significant portion of the human race. It has no place in this world. So how can so many people defend, or excuse words like c*nt, tw*t or slut. Words that demean and degrade a significant portion of the human race? What is the difference between them?
Is it because they are used to describe women? Body parts? Is it because deep down, some of you excusing these words honestly believe that it’s OK to describe a woman like that? She deserved it? That’s the most offered reason I’ve read over the past few days. “Ms. What-ever-her-name is deserved it. Because she’s a public figure. Because she opened her mouth. Because she started it. Because she is. Because she isn’t. Because she said…. “. Excuses to dehumanize all women under the guise of insulting one. Because she deserved it.
Why is one word racist and another not sexist? Why is calling one woman a slut and another a twat different because of their opinions? Would you ever use those words to describe your mother? Your wife? Your sister? Your girlfriend? Would you allow someone to use those words against them? Or would you make excuses then too?
Words have power. They can uplift, they can destroy. Some words destroy far more than others. I guess it’s up to us to decide which ones we choose to use.
